Earthquake in Chile
I haven’t posted anything in a while. I can’t say if I will keep doing it. I would like to take the time to talk about the earthquake that hit Chile last night and the tsunami that is traveling across the Pacific because of it. Right now the forecast at the Marquesas Islands is somewhat subdued and therefore the Hawaii hit may be less severe than initially expected. This is good news. However this magnitude 8.8 earthquake that hit Chile isn’t. It’s reportedly one of the biggest in a century. We can’t do much, but we can pray. Let’s hope that no more damage is done. An earthquake this big is expected to create a tsunami of catastrophic results and right now it’s not. Last month in Haiti, and now in Chile, this planet has been undergoing too much damage. I was informed of the earthquake via a tweet about LOST. Sure, it’s great that pop culture in the media is there to inform us but it’s quite alarming, this world we live in. My interest in a primetime television show gets me caring about a tragic natural disaster. It’s not a bad thing. But what can we do? There has got to be something else besides sitting here and watching our favorite celebrities support Haiti with labor or donations. I wish there were more. I don’t have money to donate but then perhaps I shouldn’t be spending $40,000 a year on a degree for entertainment purposes. I guess I’m hoping that there was an easier way. What can I do to make a difference?
